The festival of colors is perhaps the most popular celebration in Nepal and India

During the stay in Hetauda we had the chance to Celebrate Holi, the festival of colors. Some of the Nepali peeps that hosted us explained the meaning behind this celebration. It was a bit confusing and sadly I missed most of it, however I did get that colors (obviously) and dancing are the most important part of it! The city goes wild and the people take over the streets.

Our celebration was really nice and "local", it was mostly friends in a big conference room. After the colors, we headed out to the city. It was just wild. Streets are full, there is music and colored water raining from balconies. Hetauda is a very small town, I can only imagine what the festival must be like in Kathmandu.
The colors are made of powder and can easily be mixed with water. They are used all year-round for religious purposes. My favorite is yellow, in the sun it really looks very bright...

The atmosphere was that of pure joy and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Tourists, mostly blonde, are a favorite target for water and colors. Fortunately, I can easily blend in as a local haha! I still got my fare share of colors though. After a round in the city we headed back for a very necessary shower and to rest after a day of dancing and jumping.

If you have never celebrated Holi, here's The 4 step Holi guide for dummies:

1. Use clothes that you absolutely do not care about
2. Same goes for the shoes!
3. Pick your favorite color and rub it in the face of someone you (don't) know
4. Say HAPPY HOLI!
Here's a small video of our celebration. They played this song maybe...15 times?
